Yes, I'm probably the last person (make that girl) on earth that hadn't seen the movie or read the book.
Well, since warm weather graced us today in NY, I headed to the new Tanger outlets in my neighborhood and treated myself to a movie.
As always, I ran late. However, I HAD to get my $5 popcorn and $5 soda making me miss the first few minutes of the movie. No regrets. I will be owning this movie when it comes out on DVD and watch it over and over again. It was such a sweet, funny and charming movie.
My favorite quote: "They said I was a valued customer, now they send me hate mail."
Of course, being in the outlets, I also HAD to check out the stores and see what good deals I could get. A few things made it home with me, which, of course, I didn't need. I am very happy to report that the most expensive thing I bought was $15.
My income has slowed down quite a bit. Yes, the economy has put a damper on everyone's shopping. However, it leads me to wonder about something. What makes a real life shopaholic? Is it that you have to spend - no matter what - to feel better. To get that jolt of something. Even if it's spending $3 on a cup of coffee or $5 on a t-shirt at Old Navy? Or, do you have to spend hundreds upon hundreds on a designer piece to boost your self- confidence? Is it bad to want to shop?
Is it possible to justify that $3.00 spent and say that every little bit helps the economy? What do you think?
I believe that yes, a little bit can go a long way. My few dollars spent in someone else's etsy shop, can lift their spirits, encourage them to keep going and maybe help them pay a bill or two. It can allow them to shop in someone else's little shop, and so on and so on. Just keep it under control AND DON'T GET IN DEBT!!!
Well, I'm off to browse etsy. Those $5 in my paypal account are burning a hole in my computer :)
So today I managed to get a few things done. One of them being coordinating a mix up in shipping that I am just kicking myself over. Like I wrote to one customer, the timing couldn't be worse. I have been trying very hard to get things done and loose ends tied before going away on vacation from Monday to Monday. Now, I have to scramble to keep two people happy, get a designer day done, pack, etc., etc.
I got started on the torch rather late today and as I'm happily working away, I start hearing thunder. I decided to check the weather online. I'm a bit of a weather.com satellite addict. To my surprise, lots of red areas (baaaad thunderstorms) were almost right over me and lots more behind them. I hurried upstairs to get the mail but it was a tremendous downpour by the time I made it to the door. I debated on whether I should hit the anneal button on the kiln and call it a night. I figured it would be a good idea. I decided to heat up my dinner just in case the electricity went out. After all, I wouldn't want to starve!
During a break in the action, I ran outside to turn the propane off, get the mail, take the trash out and then Boom, more rain, thunder and lighting.
After watching some tv, I decided to come online and check things out. I got sidetracked, as I often do.
I came across the Corning Glass Museum website. We'll be going Upstate on vacation and thought it a possibility to visit the museum. Didn't realize we'll be almost 4 hours away. Now my dilema emerges. Do I want to drive the 4 hours, pay for a hotel over night, drive back another 4 hours? I guess I should inquire how long the ride would be if I made it from home. If already being upstate knocks off a couple of hours, the I guess I will go on my adventure.
Another way I got sidetracked was when I googled something I saw in the museum's website. I came across an old blog entry from Lori Greenberg in which she mentions doing a web search when "she's dry from topics." Above that statement, I saw her tags for the previous post: "blah, blah, blah"
Lightbulb went off! I thought this might be a fun diversion from beads, selling, listing, losing weight and all the other stuff I get so wrapped up in just about every day.
Here is what I came up with: A search for "BLAH" yielded 18,400,000 listings
It means: n.
- Worthless nonsense; drivel.
- blahs A general feeling of discomfort, dissatisfaction, or depression: “Monday morning Oscar woke up with the blahs” (New Yorker).
adj.
- Dull and uninteresting.
- Low in spirit or health; down: sat around all day feeling blah.
[Imitative of meaningless talk.]
There were 89 pages listed for the results but it doesn't go past 88
The very first listing: http://www.blah.com/ a South American online community (I think)
The very last listing it showed: a goole books: You Poor Monster: A Novel - Google Books Result

I have to say, this was a lot of fun! A great way to get some "wacky" and "off the beaten path inspiration. You might just get to see this again soon. Take care, stay cool and dry if you're in the path of the storm.
